Legal advice

The explanations and information provided on this page are general, high-level explanations and information on how to write your own terms and conditions document only. You should not rely on this article as legal advice or as recommendations on what you should actually do, as we cannot know in advance what specific terms you may wish to set out between your business, your customers and your visitors. We recommend that you seek legal advice to help you understand and assist you in creating your own terms and conditions.

Terms and Conditions - Basics

However, the Terms and Conditions (“T&C”) are a set of binding legal terms that are determined by you, the owner of this website. The Terms and Conditions set out the legal boundaries that govern the activities of visitors to the website, or your customers, while visiting or interacting with this website. The Terms and Conditions are intended to establish the legal relationship between visitors to the website and you, the owner of the website.

Terms of use should be tailored to the specific needs and nature of each website. For example, a website that offers products to customers in e-commerce transactions will require different terms of use than a website that only provides information (such as a blog, landing page, etc.).

The terms of use give you the ability to protect yourself as a website owner from legal issues, but this can vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, so be sure to get local legal advice if you are trying to protect yourself from legal issues.

What to include in a Terms and Conditions document

In general, the terms and conditions cover these types of issues: who is allowed to use the site; possible payment methods; a statement from the site owner that it may change its offering in the future; the types of guarantees the site owner provides to its customers; a reference to intellectual property or copyright issues, where applicable; the site owner's right to suspend or cancel a member's account; and much more.
